Antje Bostelmann - Profile
“I believe anyway that, if young people listened to everything that older people said to them, then all development would stop and the world would stand still." (Astrid Lindgren)
Antje Bostelmann is a qualified educator. In 1990 she founded KLAX, at first as a private painting school and afternoon care centre with an artistic focus; today, KLAX is a supra-regional provider of educational facilities with crèches, kindergartens and schools (in Germany and Sweden). She has also developed KLAX pedagogy, a modern pedagogical concept that places the child at the centre of the pedagogical work and forms the basis of the work done in all KLAX facilities. As creator of KLAX pedagogy, she has played a considerable role in establishing Portfolio work and self-organised learning in Germany.
In the process, she has actively promoted the Europe-wide exchange of pedagogical ideas and the realisation of the proposals outlined in the UN's world decade of "Education for sustainable development". She develops learning and play materials for use in kindergartens and crèches. Since 1995, she has published several pedagogical text books with many bestsellers among these. In 2008, she and her team of authors were voted author team of the year by the publishing house ‘Verlag an der Ruhr’.
Antje Bostelmann is not only deeply interested in the well-being of children, but also in that of her employees. This has gained recognition for this throughout Germany, something that is reflected in the Top Job awards gained by KLAX from 2005 to 2010. Antje Bostelmann is the mother of three children and lives in Berlin.
